The 2024 Duffield & Hazelwood Scarecrow Trail, which saw more than 100 scarecrows featured among 70 displays dotted around the two villages, not only saw hundreds of visitors admiring the creative talents on show but also helped to raise over £1,000 split equally between two local charities. This years beneficiaries were Bridge the Gap Child Mental Health C.I.C and Treetops Hospice.

Bridge the Gap offers a 1:1 support service, they usually work with children for around 12 weeks, longer if needed; and especially with children who have experienced trauma or who have additional needs. They have a unique non-clinical, relationship-focused approach, that supports children with their emotional education and understanding.

Treetops Hospice provides nursing care and emotional support for anyone affected by a life-limiting illness or bereavement in Derby, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

This years Scarecrow Trail raised £1,050 for the two charities (£525 each). The money was raised thanks to sales of Scarecrow Trail maps and raffle tickets, plus Duffield Arts Festival donated £5 for every scarecrow entry.

Paul Sheldon from Treetops’ Duffield shop said “Treetops Hospice would like to say a huge thank you for the money everyone raised for the charity; it will be used to help with the nurses at the Hospice and the equipment that is needed. We’re already looking forward to being a part of next year’s Scarecrow Trail. Thank you again.”

Richard Wyman from Bridge the Gap said “This is amazing! Thank you to everyone who supported and donated; it makes such a difference knowing that there are so many people out there rooting for the children in our City.”
