Duffield Public Transport Guide 2026

Like many villages up and down the country Duffield has very limited public car parking available. Whilst we do appreciate that for some visitors the car is the best, if not only option available for getting to Duffield, for others there are several alternative transport options available including bus and train. Here we aim to highlight the various public transport options available to help you choose a stress-free, or at least less stressful way of visiting Duffield Arts Festival and the village as a whole.
Duffield Bus Services
Duffield has two main bus services which both run 7 days a week and together provide frequent services from Derby, Belper and many other towns and villages in Derbyshire
Trent Barton Sixes
The Sixes is a regular commuter bus service that runs into Duffield from both Derby and Belper every 15 minutes Monday-Saturday daytime, and there are also plenty of sixes buses running Monday-Saturday evenings and on Sundays.
The main sixes corridor runs to/form:
Derby – Darley Abbey – Allestree – Quorndon – Duffield – Milford – Belper
Beyond the main Derby-Duffield-Belper corridor the sixes also runs to and from places such as Wirksworth, Matlock, Bakewell, Heage, and Ripley. The various sixes routes through Duffield are:
- 6.1 – Derby – Darley Abbey – Allestree – Quorndon – Duffield – Milford – Belper – Cowers Lane – Idridgehay – Wirksworth – Cromford – Matlock Bath – Matlock – Darley Dale – Rowsley – Bakewell
- 6.2/6.3 – Derby – Darley Abbey – Allestree – Quorndon – Duffield – Milford – Belper – Heage – Ripley
- 6.4 – Derby – Darley Abbey – Allestree – Quorndon – Duffield – Milford – Belper – Alton Manor – Openwoodgate
High Peak Transpeak
Transpeak is a scenic daytime bus route that runs hourly 7 days a week between Derby and Buxton and connects Duffield with several places in Derbyshire’s Derwent Valley and Peak District as well as providing a fast service from Derby. The transpeak route is as follows:
- Derby – Darley Abbey – Allestree – Duffield – Milford – Belper – Ambergate – Whatstandwell – Cromford – Matlock Bath – Matlock – Darley Dale – Rowsley – Bakewell – Ashford-in-the-Water – Taddington – Burlow – Buxton
Duffield Train Services
Duffield has both a regular train service that connects the village with several towns and cities right across the East Midlands, as well as heritage train services that run on several weekends throughout the year including when Duffield Arts Festival is on.
Mainline Services – Derwent Valley Line
Duffield’s main commuter railway service is the Derwent Valley Line, presently run by East Midlands Railway. The service runs hourly in both directions 7 days a week with trains running throughout the daytime and evening. The service connects Duffield with towns and villages in Derbyshire’s Derwent Valley as well as the cities of Derby, Nottingham and Lincoln plus many other towns across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. Furthermore some trains continue to/from the seaside town of Cleethorpes.

- Matlock – Matlock Bath – Cromford – Whatstandwell – Ambergate – Belper – Duffield – Derby – Spondon – Long Eaton – Beeston – Nottingham – Newark Castle – Collingham – Swinderby – Hykeham – Lincoln – Market Rasen – Barnetby – Habrough – Grimsby Town – Grimsby Docks – New Clee – Cleethropes
Please note – trains for Duffield between Lincoln and Cleethorpes run every two hours.
